I have known Katy since I moved to Tahoe in 2010. She and Patterson have been together as long as I can remember. When they finally got married at Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills it was one of those days where everything just felt right. The couple was happy, the crowd was happy, the band was going, and it never let up.

Sequoyah Country Club sits at 4550 Heafey Road tucked into the hills above Oakland, surrounded by Monterey pines and giant redwoods. Spanish Colonial clubhouse, high beam ceilings, wrought iron chandeliers, sweeping views across the East Bay to the peninsula. The Terrace Lawn for ceremonies. The Terrace Room for receptions. Built-in dance floor. It has been here since 1913 and it looks like it.
People who know the Bay Area know Sequoyah. People who don’t often stumble onto it and can’t believe it exists. One of the best kept secrets in the East Bay.

Some weddings have a whole arc to them — nerves in the morning, tension before the ceremony, relief after. Katy and Patterson’s day had none of that. They were happy from the moment I arrived and it never changed. Two people who have been together long enough to know exactly what they have, finally getting married in front of everyone who loves them.
The room was full of Tahoe people. Ray Obiedo and his band played the reception. The dance floor at Sequoyah is built in and it earned its keep that night.

Ray Obiedo and his band played the reception. If you are from Oakland you probably already know the name. The dance floor never really cleared. The energy in that room with the high beam ceilings and the Bay view behind it was something.
Sugar Sweet Bakery out of East Oakland did the cake. Wild Bunch Flowers did the florals. Everything fit the day.
