Lake Tahoe engagement photography · Truckee, California
A practice run. With great photos.
An engagement session is an hour or two of the two of you somewhere you love, with me following along. Lake Tahoe, the foothills, wine country, the city. No crowd and no schedule.
I'm a documentary wedding photographer based in Truckee. I came up shooting news and landscapes, so I'm not going to pose you into shapes. We walk, you talk and I catch what happens.
Below are real engagement sessions I've photographed, from Eagle Rock to Napa Valley to downtown Sacramento.

Pick the place. I'll find the light.
Eagle Rock
A short climb on Lake Tahoe's West Shore to a volcanic outcrop with the lake below. Bring shoes with grip.
Divya & Sai at Eagle RockValhalla
The historic estate on the south shore. Old wood buildings, a pier, pine forest and the lake in one place.
Derek & Jack at ValhallaOlympic Valley meadow
The big meadow at Palisades Tahoe. Open sky, the peaks behind you and light that changes by the minute.
Palisades Tahoe guideCronan Ranch
Rolling hills and big oaks in Pilot Hill, above the American River. Gold most of the year at sunset.
Maggie & Kyle at Cronan RanchNapa Valley
Vineyard rows at golden hour. Bring a bottle of something to pop at the end.
Sam & Lauren in NapaSomewhere that's yours
The trail you hike every weekend, your neighborhood or the city where you met. Those make the best ones.

How an engagement session works
Four steps. That's it.
01
Pick a date.
Send me a date or two and roughly where you want to shoot. If I'm free, we lock it in.
02
Pick the place.
Somewhere that means something to you, or one of my favorite spots. I'll help you choose.
03
Plan for the light.
We start about an hour or two before sunset. That's when everything looks best.
04
Show up and walk.
Wear something you love and shoes you can walk in. I'll handle the rest.
Engagement session FAQ
Questions couples actually ask.
How much does an engagement session cost?
An engagement session is $900 on its own. If you're booking your wedding with me, it's $600 added to any wedding package, and it's already included in the All In collection.
How long is an engagement session?
Engagement sessions run 1 to 2 hours. That's enough time to get comfortable, move through two or three spots and catch the best light without rushing.
Is an engagement session included in your wedding packages?
It's included in the All In collection ($7,200). With The Essentials or The Full Story you can add one for $600.
Can we book an engagement session if you're not shooting our wedding?
Yes. An engagement session on its own is $900. Plenty of couples start with an engagement session and book their wedding after.
Where do you photograph engagement sessions?
All over Lake Tahoe and Truckee, including Eagle Rock, Valhalla and the Olympic Valley meadow. I also shoot in the Sierra foothills, Napa Valley, Sacramento and the Bay Area.
When is the best time of day for engagement photos?
The last hour or two before sunset. The light gets warm and low and everything looks better. Sunrise works too if you want a spot to yourselves.
What should we wear for engagement photos?
Something that feels like you on a good day. Solid colors and soft tones photograph well. Wear shoes you can walk in, and if we're hiking, bring nicer shoes to change into at the top.
Why do an engagement session before the wedding?
You get used to being photographed and you get used to me. By the wedding day you're not thinking about the camera, and that shows in the photos.
Just got engaged?
Tell me where. Tell me when.
Send a date and the place you're thinking about. And if you're still looking for a wedding photographer, let's talk about that too.
