Rainbow Lodge sits in the forest just above Donner Summit. It’s a historic mountain lodge surrounded by pine trees, granite, and a river that runs right along the edge of the property. It’s quiet, tucked away, and feels like a retreat in the best way.
There’s a grassy lawn by the river for the ceremony, a deck in the trees, and indoor spaces with that old wood cabin feel if the weather turns. The reception layout is simple and walkable, which matters more than people think. You can move through the day without losing momentum.
Light in the late afternoon filters through the trees and bounces off the river. Inside, it’s warm and glowy. Outside, it’s soft and natural. There’s texture everywhere, stone walls, timber beams, water, moss, ferns, and fire pits.
I’ve photographed weddings here through snowstorms, heat waves, and golden fall weekends. I know how to use the space without staging every frame and how to keep it real without losing that mountain magic.
If you’re getting married at Rainbow Lodge, let’s make it look how it felt.
