Gay Wedding at High Camp, Palisades Tahoe

A Black Tie Winter WeddingAt Palisades Tahoe

Derek and Jack’s gay wedding at High Camp, Palisades Tahoe was black tie, winter, and completely them. Snow still covered the peaks, the tram ride up was already cinematic before a single vow was spoken, and the whole day carried a joy and pride that came through in every frame. I had photographed their engagement session at Valhalla Tahoe, so watching it all come full circle at 8,200 feet hit different. Two grooms in black tie with the Sierra behind them. This is what a gay wedding at Palisades Tahoe looks like.

The Venue

Why High Camp Is the perfect gay wedding venue

High Camp sits at 8,200 feet inside Palisades Tahoe, accessible only by aerial tram. In winter, the peaks are snow-covered, the air is sharp, and the views over Olympic Valley stretch endlessly below. There is no backdrop in California quite like it.
Derek and Jack chose black tie. Their guests stepped off the tram in formal wear with snowfields behind them. That contrast- formal, joyful, wild, set the tone for everything that followed.

The Tram

When the Venue Starts Before the VenueAt 8,200 Feet

The tram at Palisades Tahoe doesn’t just take you to the venue. It is the venue. The moment guests step on and start ascending, snowfields below, peaks above, the mountain revealing itself, the wedding has already begun. It is one of the most dramatic arrivals in the world.

Derek and Jack knew exactly what they were choosing. Their guests stepped off in black tie into a snow-covered alpine world and immediately understood: this is not a normal wedding. It wasn’t. It was better.

The Celebration

Black Tie on Top of a MountainAll Night Long

After vows at the summit, the party started and never slowed down. There is something about a black tie wedding at 8,200 feet in the snow that makes everyone feel like they are part of something rare. Because they are.

Derek and Jack’s guests celebrated exactly as big as the moment deserved. The dance floor never cooled off. This gallery captures all of it from ceremony to last dance.
