Francis and Grayson brought 160 people to Maui. Not a small wedding dressed up as a destination event. An actual full destination celebration where the guests showed up and stayed and the whole thing ran for multiple days. South Maui Gardens in Kihei was the venue. Seven acres of tropical nursery and garden tucked two minutes from Kalama Beach, tucked away from the main road, completely its own world.
THE VENUE

South Maui Gardens is a seven-acre tropical nursery in South Kihei, two minutes from Kalama Beach. Palm trees, tropical flora, outdoor terraces, sculptures, food vendors on property. It does not look like a resort wedding venue because it is not one. It is a working garden that happens to be one of the most visually interesting places to get married on the island.
The property has a bridal suite, dance floor setup, tables and chairs, and multiple ceremony and reception spaces. It is in the heart of Kihei. You can feel the life of the island.
THE WEDDING

When 160 people travel across an ocean to be at your wedding, the day carries a different kind of weight. Francis and Grayson earned that. This was not a quick ceremony on a beach. It was a full multi-day celebration in Kihei with everyone they love in one place, in one of the most beautiful spots in the Pacific.
The dance floor was packed. The food was outstanding. South Maui Gardens gave them the space to do the whole thing properly and the guests responded. One of the biggest, most joyful receptions I have shot.

The light in Kihei is warm and soft for most of the afternoon. South Maui Gardens sits in a way that gives you open shade from the palms and garden canopy all day, which means you are not fighting harsh midday sun the way you would at a beach venue. The greens are vivid, the backgrounds are layered, and the whole property photographs richly.
For a destination wedding photographer, this is one of the more enjoyable venues I have worked. Plenty of locations within the property, easy flow between ceremony and reception, and light that cooperates across most of the day.
