Sasha and Kyle got married at Saint John's Church inside Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma. Ceremony in the church, portraits along the South Fork of the American River, reception at Gold Hill Vineyard up the road. The church seats 50. They filled it. Then we spent golden hour in the park before heading to the vineyard for dinner and dancing.
THE CEREMONY

Small wooden church on the hill above Coloma. Been there since 1856. Wooden pews, simple altar, narrow windows. It seats around 50. No decoration needed and none was added. Sasha and Kyle kept it simple and it worked.
After the ceremony we walked out and the South Fork of the American River was right there. That is where the portraits happened.
THE PORTRAITS

Right after the ceremony we shot in front of the church with the building behind them. The trees on the grounds filter the light and give you soft, even coverage in the late afternoon. No harsh shadows. The church reads clearly in the background and does not need to be explained.
Then we moved to Gold Hill Vineyard for golden hour in the grapes. Rows of vines, warm light, the whole thing. By the time the guests were settling in for dinner we already had everything we needed.
THE RECEPTION

VINEYARD
After portraits the group moved to Gold Hill Vineyard in Placerville for dinner and dancing. The park has limitations for a full reception. Moving it offsite gives you real catering, a proper dance floor, and no curfew issues. Sasha and Kyle got the church they wanted and the reception they wanted. Both in the same day, 15 minutes apart.
