A Full Moon Summer WeddingIn Olympic Valley
Molly and Jono got married under a full blood moon at the Olympic Valley Event Center and that tells you just about everything you need to know about how their day went. August light in the valley, mountains all around, their dog absolutely losing it in the meadow during the first look, and a first dance that turned into an hour long dance party nobody wanted to stop. Then we snuck away for golden hour that I still think about. One of my favorite days.
The Venue
The Valley at Its BestOlympic Valley Event Center
The Olympic Valley Event Center sits at the base of Palisades Tahoe with the Sierra surrounding it on all sides. In August the valley is green, the light is warm, and the mountains feel close enough to touch. It is a completely different experience from High Camp. Down here the venue opens up into the landscape rather than looking down on it.
Molly and Jono made full use of it. The meadow, the mountains, the evening light. And a full blood moon rising over the valley to close it all out.
The Meadow
First Look, Dog, Golden HourAll in the Valley
The first look happened out in the big meadow in Olympic Valley. Open sky, the Sierra all around, and their dog who had absolutely no interest in staying calm. He was jumping on both of them the whole time and it was perfect. Those frames are some of the most genuinely joyful from the whole day.
We did portraits in the afternoon light, then I snuck them back out to the meadow for golden hour. The light shifted fast that evening, coming off the peaks at different angles, the whole valley changing in real time. It was one of the best golden hours I have had at this venue. We stayed until the last of it was gone.
The Celebration
First Dance to Dance PartyFor an Hour Straight
The first dance turned into a dance party and the dance party went for hours. Nobody left the floor. Molly and Jono have the kind of friends who show up and go all in, and that energy carried through every single minute of the reception.
