A Fall Wedding in the Valley At Palisades Tahoe
Delaney and Eric’s wedding at the Olympic Valley Event Center was one of those days that reminded me why I do this. I had gotten to know them at their engagement shoot at Skylandia, so by the time their wedding day came around there was already a real comfort between us. They did their first look in the big meadow in the valley, portraits out in the open with the Sierra all around them, golden hour that made every frame glow, and a reception where Delaney completely owned the dance floor. Their friends got hyphy. It was that kind of day.

A Different Side of PalisadesThe Olympic Valley Event Center
The Olympic Valley Event Center sits at the base of Palisades Tahoe with the Sierra Nevada rising up around it. It is a different experience than High Camp. Down in the valley, you get the mountains as a backdrop rather than a perch. The meadow opens up, the sky gets wide, and the whole place feels like you are inside the mountain rather than on top of it.
Delaney and Eric chose it well. The fall light in the valley is something else. Warm and golden, bouncing off the peaks, lasting longer than you expect. It made for portraits I still think about.
The Meadow
First Look, Portraits, Golden HourAll in the Valley
Delaney and Eric did their first look out in the big meadow in Olympic Valley. Open land, the Sierra on every side, no one else around. It is one of the best kept secrets at Palisades Tahoe and most couples never know it is there. We shot portraits in the afternoon light while the mountains were still warm and the valley floor was quiet.
Then we went back for golden hour. That is when the meadow does something special. The light shifts fast out there, coming off the peaks at different angles, the whole valley changing color in real time. We chased it and it delivered. Some of my favorite frames from any wedding I have shot are from those twenty minutes.

Some receptions are polite. Some are parties. Delaney and Eric’s was a full send. Their friends got hyphy and the dance floor never had a quiet moment. Delaney in particular was an absolute force out there.
