First Look Wedding at High Camp, Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley, California

Lily
& James

First look early. Light all day.

High Camp · Palisades Tahoe

A summer wedding with time to spare.

Lily and James got married at High Camp at Palisades Tahoe on August 15, 2026. They did a first look in the valley that morning, and it paid off all day.

More time with their bridal party. More time for portraits up top before the ceremony. And a full golden hour after dinner that was all bonus.

The plan

Do the first look early. Buy back the light.

The first look · Olympic Valley

Letters, then tears.

We started in the meadow at the base of the valley. James turned around, saw Lily, and then they read each other the letters they wrote. There were tears. Real ones.

It's one of my favorite ways to start a wedding day. No guests, no schedule pressure. Just the two of them and a lot of mountain.

The bridal party · The valley

The crew showed up ready.

We did the bridal party photos in the valley too, with the peaks right behind them. Bouquets in the air, groomsmen jumping, a lot of yelling.

Because we weren't racing the clock, we got to play. That's where the good stuff comes from.

Before the ceremony · High Camp

Up the tram for portraits.

Then we rode the Aerial Tram up to High Camp and watched the valley drop away. Before the guests came up, we walked out on the ridge. Big sky, granite and the Sierra in every direction.

With a first look, this time is yours. Without one, it mostly doesn't exist.

The ceremony · High Camp

Married above Lake Tahoe.

The ceremony was out on the deck with Lake Tahoe way off in the distance. They laughed through the vows, kissed and came back up the aisle with their arms in the air.

Golden hour · On the mountain

Then the light went gold.

After dinner we snuck back outside. Golden hour at High Camp in August runs long and warm, and the grass up top lights up. We stayed out until it went blue.

We'd already done the big portraits before the ceremony. So this part was all bonus, and it shows.

Wild dancers.

Then their friends took the dance floor and never gave it back. Toasts, a first dance, the cake, and then a party that went hard until the last song.

FAQ

A first look at High Camp.

Where did Lily and James get married?

Lily and James got married at High Camp at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley, California, on August 15, 2026. They did a first look and bridal party photos in the valley, rode the Aerial Tram up for portraits before the ceremony, got married on the deck and finished with golden hour on the mountain.

Should we do a first look at a High Camp wedding?

I usually recommend it. High Camp is tram access only, so the day has a lot of moving parts. A first look gets your portraits and bridal party photos done early, so after the ceremony you can actually be with your guests.

Where can we do a first look at Palisades Tahoe?

The meadow at the base of Olympic Valley is my favorite. It's open, it's quiet and the mountains are right behind you. Lily and James did their first look and bridal party photos there before heading up the tram.

What does a first look change about the timeline?

It moves most of your portraits to before the ceremony. You're not trying to cram everything into cocktail hour, and golden hour becomes a bonus instead of the only shot you get.

How do guests get to High Camp?

High Camp sits at 8,200 feet and is tram access only. Guests ride the Aerial Tram up from the Village at Palisades Tahoe. Build the tram ride into your timeline.

When is golden hour at High Camp in August?

In August the sun sets late, so golden hour usually lands after dinner. Plan 20 to 30 minutes away from the reception for it. It's worth it.
